Paloma

Light, tart & refreshing, the Paloma is Mexico's favorite tequila cocktail and the ultimate embodiment of summer.

Paloma

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Blanco Tequila
  • 2 oz Fresh Pink or Red Grapefruit Juice
  • ½ oz Fresh Lime Juice
  • ½ oz Agave Nectar
  • 3 oz Club Soda (Sparkling Water)
  • Garnish: Grapefruit Slice
  • Optional: Coarse Salt for rimming

Instructions

  1. Prep Your Glass: For a salt-rimmed glass, run a lime wedge around half the rim and dip into coarse salt. This gives you the choice to sip with or without salt with each taste.
  2. Mix Your Cocktail: Add tequila, fresh grapefruit juice, lime juice, and agave nectar to a cocktail shaker.
  3. Shake: Fill shaker with ice and shake for 5-10 seconds—just enough to chill, combine ingredients, and create a light aeration.
  4. Build: Strain into a tall glass filled with fresh ice.
  5. Finish: Top with club soda and gently stir to incorporate.
  6. Garnish: Add a grapefruit slice to the rim of your glass.

Bartender's Notes

The Paloma outshines the Margarita as Mexico's most beloved tequila cocktail. While bottled grapefruit soda is traditional, this fresh-juice version elevates the classic with bright, natural flavors. For the best results, use freshly squeezed pink grapefruit juice—its sweetness balances perfectly with the tart lime and earthy tequila. Quality blanco tequila (100% agave) makes all the difference in this simple cocktail.

Pro tip: For summer entertaining, prepare the tequila-juice mixture in advance and store refrigerated. When guests arrive, simply shake with ice, pour, and top with fresh soda water for effortless serving.
